Lisbet Chiriboga, MS Ed - Program Strategist, TeachKind

This session provides key information for getting humane resources and programs into schools, including ways to garner support from school staff and parents and which laws you should know about, as well as a showcase of TeachKind's FREE Share the World program, which helps open the hearts of children—even those who witness different types of violence toward animals every day. Find out how Share the World can be used in the classroom or in out of school programs and how YOU can connect with schools and help make the world a kinder place—one student at a time.
About our Speaker:
Lisbet Chiriboga is the Program Strategist for TeachKind, the humane education division at PETA. She was a classroom teacher for 12 years and has received awards for her teaching, such as being a semi-finalist in the New York City Teacher Excellence Awards—this was due in large part to her work in humane education. Lisbet uses her experience to help teachers around the world incorporate animal rights issues into their curriculum. She serves on the Executive Board of the United Federation of Teachers – Humane Education Committee and has conducted teacher workshops on animal rights issues for 15 years. Lisbet is also one of the original founders of Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers (HEART).

Hey Lisbet, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, especially the tools on how to market one's humane education program; great suggestions! It is heartbreaking to hear that youth violence against animals is at an epidemic level and we do need to share this fact. I like what you said that, "Humane education is not a feel good program, but an urgent need." The "Share the World" program is beautiful!

Hi Judy! I'm so glad this was helpful for you! And yes, it is absolutely heartbreaking to constantly hear about incidents of violence perpetrated by children and teens around the country. I've found that this issue is really something that gets the attention of all educators and schools and helps them open up to humane education...because none of us want this epidemic to continue.
